And the winner by a nose is…

As some of you know, last week I went in to have a bump on my nose checked out and removed.  Today I received a call from a nurse letting me know the results of my biopsy.

“Eep!”

I have Squamous Cell Carcinoma! [Click here for info on SCC]

I know it may seem like I’m making a joke of it, but I assure you that I do take this very seriously.  The thought of cancerous cells in my body is currently freaking me out.  However, I also know that there is nothing I can do about it other than having it treated as soon as possible.  I will be making my appointment on Monday to schedule my Mohs Procedure.  [Click here for more info on Mohs]

Mohs Surgery is a procedure in which layers of my skin will be removed and tested until I show no more signs of cancerous material.  Then the hole is sewn up and allowed to heal.  Since I caught this so early, I expect very little in the way of disfigurement, so all of you that are jealous of my exceptional beauty shouldn’t start celebrating just yet.

There is also an extremely high cure rate, so the likelihood of SCC showing up again is small as long as I stay out of the sun and wear lotion whenever I am outdoors.  Now do you freaks understand why I don’t like basting and baking myself on the beach like chicken on a grill?  I told you so!

So there it is… I’m keeping it on the down-low because I have friends, family and co-workers with a lot worse problems right now. I won’t really give any details on he following, but if you could please pray for Tim, Becky, Jill, Jill’s mom, my mom, and Randy I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. dude. Praying.

  2. Jerry – Definitely will be praying. Let me know when you are having it done. In my book, is there really a “small scale” with these things. Maybe a little, but when it’s YOU, it’s not. Thanks for mentioning my fam, you are so kind. Thanks for your prayers and know they are being said for you too.

  3. Wow…I’m glad you got it checked out when you did! We’ll be praying for you.

  4. Dude, I am totally praying for you and for everybody else around here. What a crazy time this is.

  5. I will be praying for you, friend! My roomie, Nicole, had 2 of these procedures done…so did my mom…so, I know exactly what you are talking about. I will be praying that they get it all in the first pass and for quick recovery and speedy healing.

  6. Hey Jerry, one word of advice. Buy a journal just for your treatments, and log everything the doctors & nurses do & prescribe. Your medical records will get misplaced at some point. They will ask you hundreds of times about your dates of treatment, test results, medications, etc. Your checkups are going to span years and you will forget some stuff that they are going ask you about. It makes it really easy if you can just point to a page instead of waiting for them to look it up.
